About the company

The Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, founded in 2001, is a large multidisciplinary research base of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on Hefei’s Science Island, with seven research units and about 2,700 staff. It operates the EAST superconducting tokamak and the Steady High Magnetic Field Facility. In January 2025 EAST sustained a high-confinement plasma for 1,066 seconds.
